A strong research and teaching program in Biosciences and Bioengineering
nurtured by active collaboration between biologists, medical scientists,
physical scientists and engineers
The Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) is a nodal center for applying science and engineering principles to further fundamental knowledge and applications in biology and biomedical engineering. BSBE aims to create an ambience for the smooth pursuit of scholarly activities in research and education, to make an international impact, and to produce future leaders in the field of Biosciences and Bioengineering.
Faculty of BSBE are from a variety of background viz., basic sciences, applied sciences and engineering, and are pursuing diverse teaching and research activities in biological sciences and biomedical engineering. The core of the department consists of 25+ faculty members.
BSBE currently is offering three academic programs viz., 2-year M.Sc. (Biotechnology), 2-year M.Tech. (Biomedical Engineering) and Ph.D. IIT Bombay provides students meeting certain requirements to convert from M.Sc. to M.Sc.-Ph.D. and from M.Tech. to M.Tech.-Ph.D.
