MSc to MSc-PhD Program

Criteria for conversion from MSc to MSc-PhD program

  1. A student wishing to convert from the MSc program to the MSc-PhD program should seek permission for conversion from the Department / Institute on or before the last day of instruction of the 4th semester for the student.
  2. The student should have cleared at least one national level examination (e.g., GATE, UGC-CSIR, etc.) at the time of seeking permission for the conversion.
  3. The CPI of the student, at the end of the 3rd semester, should be >=8.5 (if birth category is GEN), >=7.65 (OBC-NC, EWS) and >=5.70 (SC, ST).
  4. The student should have identified a faculty member who has agreed to guide the student for PhD.
    (i) The student may avail of TAship during the PhD subject to the condition that the total number of TAs with the proposed guide is <5 at the time the request for conversion is sought.
    (ii) The student may activate fellowship (i.e., register under the FA category of the Institute) from UGC, CSIR, etc.
    (iii) The total number of PhD students with the guide remains <=15.
