Principal Investigator
Prof. Rahul Purwar has completed his PhD from Hannover Medical School, Hannover, Germany and postdoctoral studies from Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He has worked for an Oncology company, ImmunoGen Inc. Waltham, USA before returning to India to join IIT-Bombay as an Assistant Professor. He has published several papers in reputed journals and has received many awards.

Dr. Moumita Basu
Post Doctoral Fellow
She has joined the lab in January 2021. She is currently investigating the metabolic alterations of human keratinocytes following IL-17 stimulation. She obtained her doctoral degree in Biochemistry from University of Calcutta, Kolkata in 2020. She has completed B.Sc.(Microbiology) from St. Xaviers College, Kolkata and M.Sc.(Biochemistry) from University Of Calcutta, Kolkata.

Mr. Atharva Karulkar
Dual Degree M.Sc.-PhD Student
Atharva joined the lab in 2016 to work on his M.Sc. project. He completed the project in May 2017 and continued to work for PhD. His research involves the generation of engineered T cells for cancer immunotherapy applications. Before joining the program, he completed B.Sc. (Biotechnology) from Mumbai University.

Soumitra is a PhD student who joined in 2017. He is interested in conducting proteomics-based analyses relevant to immunobiology and cancer. He completed his Integrated Masters (M.Sc) in Biotechnology from the Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, University of Pune.

Vishakha joined the lab in 2016 as a PhD student. She is working on the area of Differential regulation of myosin light chain kinases contributes in cell migration potential of healthy and malignant cells of hematopoetic and epithelial origin . Before joining PhD, she completed B.Sc.(Life Sciences and Biochemistry) from from St Xavier’s College Mumbai and M.Sc. (Biochemistry) from Seth G. .S. Medical College and K E M hospital Mumbai.

Mr. Bhavuk Dhamija
Dual Degree M.Sc.- PhD Student
Bhavuk joined the lab in 2017 to work in his M.Sc. thesis. His project includes the multi-omics analysis of malignant T cells and primary keratinocytes in cancer and skin inflammatory disorders. Before joining the M.Sc.-PhD program at IIT Bombay, he completed B.Sc.(Biochemistry) from Venkateswara College, University of Delhi.

Ms. Aalia N. Khan
PhD Student
Aalia joined the Immunoengineers team as a PhD student in July 2021. Here, she is actively investigating “Engineering strategies to overcome the current roadblocks in CAR-T cell therapy”. She previously worked as a JRF in this lab, where she had the privilege of working on India’s first indigenous and novel anti-CD19 CAR. She also holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Mumbai’s Ramnarain Ruia Autonomous College.

Ditipriya joined the lab in 2020 as a Master’s student and thereafter she has continued her PhD journey to decipher the role and underlying mechanisms of cytokines in modulating the metastatic potential of various cancer cells. Before joining Masters program at IIT Bombay, she completed B.Sc.in Microbiology from University of Calcutta.
