SALOTA

Salota, the smaller cousin of Salher is a beautiful prism shaped mountain. It is a rarely visited, forgotten fortress. Salota is graded as a difficult climb. You can guess why from the approximate route marked on the first photograph. Climb up a dry waterfall and then turn left to find a staircase cut in the rock. There is a dangerously exposed vertical drop on one side. Losing your way on this slope is serious trouble. There is a long ledge once you get to the top of the stairs. You see many caves and a nice doorway with an alcove on top where I took shelter for the night (second last photo). There are several water tanks, but the water should be boiled before drinking. The views of Salher and Selbari range are well worth the tough climb.
