Prof. Rinti Banerjee (1972-2021), the Madhuri Sinha Chair professor at the Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, was an eminent Indian physician-scientist who played a crucial and leading role in translational research through creating advanced yet affordable healthcare solutions. Rinti Banerjee joined IIT Bombay in 2001 as a faculty (assistant professor) directing Nanomedicine Laboratory. Her main interest relied on Nanostructure biomaterial, nanostructure for treatment for Cancer cardiovascular, arthritis, and similar immunological disorders, and Lipid self-assembled nanostructures. She has received several National and International Research Grants (GATES, IMPRINT, SAMSUNG) and awards in recognition of her translational research work including Women In Stem 2021, the prestigious NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award for Biological Sciences and many more. She was the associate editor of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering and was on the editorial board of Drug Delivery & Translational Research, scientific reports (Nature), and many other International Journals. She was a passionate and committed as a Teacher and made teaching and research reach the higher level each year with her scientific brilliance and gift for building collaborations. Her genuine kindness, generosity and dedication to mentorship has helped more than 10 postdoctoral scholars and around 100 graduate students throughout her career, and inspired many others from other disciplines too. Many have gone on to become leaders in their own disciplines. She has been awarded excellence in teaching and was recognised several times for her innovative yet simple translational research work
