How to reach IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay is located at Powai, an eastern suburb in the North-Eastern part of Mumbai.
Mumbai is in the form of a long narrow island, almost a peninsula, thrusting south wards into the Arabian Sea. It can be broadly divided into the following zones :
South Bombay (Colaba, CST,Fort, Chruchgate, Nariman Point etc.)
Central Bombay (Dadar, Bombay Central, Worli etc)
The Western suburbs (Bandra, Juhu, Andheri, Borivali etc)
The Eastern Suburbs(Kurla, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Kanjur Marg, Vikhroli etc.)
New Bombay (Vashi, C.B.D Belapur, Panvel, Turbhe etc.), one of the world’s largest planned townships is located across Thane Creek on the mainland.
IIT Bombay is around 10 kms from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400099, India (Auto-rickshaw costs Rs 120/- approx.), around 12 kms from Santacruz Domestic Airport (Auto-rickshaw costs Rs 150/- approx.).
Please make use of the prepaid taxi services available at both domestic and international terminals to reach IIT Bombay if taxi is your preferred choice. It takes around Rs 350/- to reach IIT Bombay.
NOTE: Always take the taxi / auto from the queue.
From Railway station:
1. Suburban Railway transport
Those coming by Central Railway Suburban train will have to get down at Kanjur Marg, Vikhroli or Ghatkopar which are the nearest stations from IIT Bombay. If you are coming by the Western Railway Suburban train you will have to get down at Andheri, Bandra, Goregoan or Malad. On reaching any of the railway stations, you may take a bus/ taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach IIT Bombay. A chart with the rates with approximate fares has been mentioned below-
2. Express/ Through trains to Mumbai
Central Railway line- Thane, L.T.T (Kurla Terminus), Dadar and C.S.T.
Western Railway line- Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri and Borivali.
